Cycling towards Bangkok

Today is the day when we will finish our cycling trip from Göteborg to Bangkok. Our plan is to start from Banglen at 10.00 and arrive at Wat Arun in Bangkok at 15.00. Our original plan was to finish in front of the Wat Phrakaew and Grand Palace, but due to the large demonstrations going on there we have decided to move the endpoint to Wat Arun.

If you are interested in seing us while still on tour then come to Wat Arun. We will be there around 3 PM today (Saturday Nov. 30).

After finishing cycling we will go to a dinner for friends and family and since it will be late we won’t cycle to Wej’s house tonight. The plan is to stay at a hotel tonight and cycle to her home tomorrow morning.

Wej writes on a thai cycling forum and there she has posted an open invitation to anyone who is interested in cycling with us this last day. About 30 cyclists from Bangkok have accepted the invitation and will meet us very soon here in Banglen.

We will update photos from today’s ride as we go and it will be possible to follow us almost live.

Thank you my dear friend, Mayumi!!! Very nice to be home again but we have a lot to do after this long journey such as pictures etc… I do really hope to see you in Göteborg again in March. Take care!!!

Congrats guys. What an achievement. Who would have predicted that 25 years after your AFS exchange to a little place called Thailand you would be finishing a return journey if such epic proportions. Much love from another AFSer and from australia. Jenny

      Thanks Jenny 🙂
I have had similar thoughts as you bring up in your comment. 25 years ago there was a Soviet Union and a not open China blocking the way between Sweden and Thailand so I think a trip like this would have been hard to carry out. Even if it would have been possible I don’t think I would have thought about it – Thailand was simply tooooo faaar away for a 17 year to comprehend and I’m sure the idea of cycling there would never have popped up in my head at that time 🙂

  3. Mamma we

  7. Deneys Coombe

Congratulations on an amazing, inspiring achievement. Following your journey taught me so much. For you, the gap between Sweden and Thailand is no longer a mass of land, but a long chain of unforgetable experiences.

    1. admin Post author

      Thanks Deneys 🙂
It was a pleasure to have you as a follower of our blog. And you are completely right – the distance between Sweden is not a long mass of land that you fly over in 10 hours. Every time we fly over it from now on we will be thinking of all nice people we have met, all the nice views we have seen and all the experiences we have gained. In a way I think that this journey has had a similar impact on me as the AFS year did – I’ll try to elaborate on this on the blog in a couple of days.

  8. Vitoon

    Welcome back Home 🙂
Although we have never met before , but because of your journey is a great inspiration to me , so I rode to Banglen this morning to see you and have a good cycling trip.
    Enjoy Thailand.

THANKS for coming to see us in Banglen 🙂
We were amazed and also proud by the number of people who turned up first in Banglen and then further on along the route to Bangkok. Even if I didn’t get the opportunity to talk to you for more than a few minutes I can say that both of us are impressed and proud that you came all the way to Banglen alone to see us.
We hope we will be able to cycle together with you soon again
      /Joakim

  11. Micke & Susanne

Grattis & Fantastiskt bra jobbat.

      Thanks a lot Sebastian.

We hope you have had nice days in Laos and Vietnam after we met in China. Where are you now and where are you heading next? We wish you a safe ride and may the wind always be on your back 🙂 🙂

        1. admin Post author

What a coincidence . I didn’t know the family name of the Sebastian we met in China so I automatically thought your comment was from him. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, but also happy to know that YOU read our blog.
Best wishes from a Bangkok where temperatures are getting down to a pleasant level now 🙂
          /Joakim
