Help us decide our route<\/strong><\/p>\n

My new year\u2019s resolution for 2013 was that this year should have no Monday mornings. To our own surprise we quickly got into a living in a time bubble in which there is only a \u201dhere and now\u201d. Our time perspective has never been longer than a few days or 3-400 km and we have had to check to know what day in the week it is. Of course there have been times when we have had to exit our comfortable time bubble and think about the more distant future and these few occasions have mostly been due to the need for visa planning.<\/p>\n

We are now in the city of Leshan some 150 km south of Chengdu and we have just got our Chinese visas extended and this was the last major bureaucratic hurdle on our way towards Bangkok. We know that there are many of our readers and followers who are interested in which way we will take through Thailand. Some of you have indicated that you want to cycle with us for some time and some would like to host us when we pass by.<\/p>\n

It is a pleasure to know that so many people are interested in seing us along the way and now it is time to leave the time bubble permanently and start planning for our entry into Thailand and now we need your help.<\/p>\n

We will leave China early in November and our first and only longer stop in Laos will be in the ancient city of Luang Prabang which we will leave on November 10th (fixed date).<\/p>\n

We are now choosing among two alternative routes and we would like to hear which route you recommend and why.<\/p>\n

One alternative is to continue south to Vientienne, the capital of Laos, cycle across the bridge over the Mekhong river and then follow it to the west for a day or two before crossing over the mountain ridge that marks the border to central Thailand.<\/p>\n

Another alternative is to go west after Luang Prabang and cross Mekhong on a ferry inside Laos and then enter Thailand at the border crossing in Huai Khon in Nan province. From Huai Khon we would go directly to Chiang Mai and then continue south to central Thailand where this route will merge with alternative 1.<\/p>\n

The red route<\/span>\u00a0will allow us to visit Chiang Mai which is the capital and hub of northern Thailand and where we have many friends. It has a longer distance in Thailand which would allow us to visit those of you (friends and followers) who live along this route. \u00a0It is more hilly \u00a0than the red route and will take a few more days
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The blue route<\/span> goes to Laos capital Vientienne which we have visited before. Wej rode her bike across the bridge over the Mekhong 6-7 years ago, but I haven’t and I would really like to do it. This route would allow us to see more of Laos which is a neighbouring country that we know far too little about.<\/p>\n

We will leave Luang Prabang on November 10th and enter Thailand about 3 days later. Whatever route we will take through Laos and Thailand will not have any effect on our arrival date to Bangkok which preliminary will be on Saturday, November 30. The arrangements around the finish of this journey will be announced later.<\/p>\n

As you can see, we have two very interesting routes to choose between and now we are all ears to listen to which of the routes you think we should take and why.<\/p>\n

The simple question is red<\/span> or blue<\/span> and why?<\/p>\n
